A DAWLISH cancer support group is celebrating its 14th birthday.

The Sunflower Bunch marked the occasion at their monthly meeting at Dawlish Methodist Church.

Founder Sue Thompson said: ‘We are still going strong and are there for those who are going through or have been through treatment for any type of cancer.

‘We give mainly emotional support but also, if possible some practical and if we can’t, we always know who can.

‘We are there for friends and family of those with cancer, as they often need a lot of support too.

‘None of us are professionals but, have all been through the same or similar experiences and, therefore have complete understanding of each others’ thoughts and feelings.’

Founded by Sue in 2009 when she was diagnosed with cancer, the group was initially called Bosom Pals.

Now known as the Sunflower Bunch, the organisation also has a popular beach hut at Coryton Cove.

It is free to use for those going through treatment and their family.

The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Methodist Church from 3pm and also on the third Monday of each month at the Langstone Cliff Hotel from 11.30am.

Social events also take place such as coffee mornings, meals and picnics at the beach hut.

There is no charge for joining the group and it is open to everyone affected by cancer.
