A GROUP of Newton Abbot businesses are joining forces for a three-day charity challenge to raise money and awareness for men’s mental health.

Organised by Fiona Fewings and Carolyn Hargreaves, the ‘By Land & Sea 2026’ challenge will see members of the teams from Sweet Dylemma, Coffee Dylemma, CJ’s Bar and TenTen Self Storage travel between the businesses’ locations across South Devon.

Taking place from September 24 to 26, the challenge will combine walking with a sea crossing as the teams aim to raise vital funds for Andy’s Man Club, which provides free peer-to-peer support groups for men aged 18 and over.

The challenge begins on September 24 with a walk from Sweet Dylemma in Dartmouth to Sweet Dylemma in Torquay.

The second day will see participants walk from Torquay to Dawlish Warren, before taking to the water to swim, kayak or paddle-board to Exmouth, finishing at Sweet Dylemma in the town.

On the final day, the team will travel from Exmouth to TenTen Self Storage in Newton Abbot, before continuing to Coffee Dylemma, Sweet Dylemma and finally CJ’s Bar, where an after-party featuring live music from Harbour will mark the completion of the challenge.

For organisers and participants, the event has a particularly personal significance, with every member of the team having been affected by mental health, either through their own experiences or by supporting family, friends or colleagues.

‘Every member of the team has been affected by mental health in some way’ said Fiona and Carolyn.

‘We know how important it is to have someone to talk to and a place where people feel heard without judgement’.

There are also rumours that a former television presenter, known for hosting game shows during the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, could be joining the team for part of the challenge.

The organisers hope the event will encourage more people to talk about mental health.

‘If our challenge encourages just one person to reach out, start a conversation or realise they don’t have to face things alone, then every mile will have been worth it’.
