AN outdoor swimming pool in Teignbridge will kick off its 90th anniversary celebrations with an open garden event in May.

Ashburton Swimming Pool opened on May 27, 1936 by the then Portreeve as part of the Golden Lion Hotel grounds.

Fast forward to the present day, and the pool is preparing to celebrate its 90th birthday with a series of special events, the first of which will be an open gardens event at Coombe Meadow on Sunday, May 17.

Cream teas will be served at the event, which take spaces from 12pm to 5pm, with lastentires at 4pm.

The event costs £5 per person, with under-16s going free.

Dogs are welcome on short leads.
