A Teignmouth-born musician who played with Kate Bush and Roy Orbison has died at the age of 86.
Danny Thompson, an acoustic bass player, was a founding member of the folk jazz band Pentangle.
He died peacefully at his home in Rickmansworth on Tuesday (September 23).
Danny worked with a wide variety of artists and was widely respected.
‘Danny was a force of nature,’ his publicist said in a statement. ‘A player who served the song and who enriched the lives of every single person he met. He will be sorely missed.’
Born in Teignmouth on April 4 1939, Danny moved to London at the age of 6.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia and his son, Dan Junior.
