Teignmouth is to host even more Christmas festivities in December thanks to local traders and community groups.
An additional Christmas market and lantern parade is to take place on Saturday December 6; two weeks after this Saturday’s (November 22) festive market and Christmas light switch on.
The December 6 market and lantern celebration will take place in The Triangle from 10am. Visitors will find a Santa’s grotto, live music and entertainment, festive foods and treats and stalls featuring local gifts and crafts and seasonal goods. There will also be a chance to take part in a free creative workshop between 10am and 2pm to create lanterns for the parade later in the afternoon.
Lantern makers taking part in the parade will be joined by the award-winning Alice the dragon, local schools and community groups.
‘Putting together this additional event for the community to celebrate the festivities and the lanterns including the award-winning Alice the dragon has been heartwarming and community driven,’ commented The Makery @TAAG community arts director Sam Lock.
‘The Teignmouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce, the Teignmouth Bakehouse boys, the Teeny Tiny Teignmouth company and the Alice Cross Centre have been incredibly supportive,’ she added. We're all working hard together to put on this amazing community event for all to enjoy.’
Teignmouth kicks off its Christmas celebrations this Saturday (November 22) with the town council Christmas light switch-on. The all-day event along Bank Street and The Triangle, includes a Christmas market, live entertainment, free fairground rides, a free Santa’s grotto and lantern parade.
Teignmouth traders are keen to encourage more residents to shop local this festive period. Earlier this month, artist and gallery owner Laura Wall urged fellow Teignmouth business-owners to share their best-selling products for a social media reel that will be posted on Colour Friday (November 28) – a UK campaign that offers an alternative to Black Friday.
