TEIGNMOUTH’S most flamboyant hotelier is back in town, and maintains the drink and psychiatric problems which caused so much mayhem in the past, are over.

Shirley Bothroyd, 62, a former high flying London barrister, bought the seafront Bay Hotel a few years ago, and was dubbed the female Basil Fawlty after a series of social media reviews centring on her eccentric and often raucous and rude behaviour.

The saga, first reported in the Teignmouth Post, made headlines in newspapers around the world. But she was not phased by the harsh comments, and said they had actually increased trade from curious visitors.

Now, she’s back in Teignmouth and has big plans for the hotel.

There’s an exclusive interview with Shirley in this week’s Teignmouth Post and Mid-Devon Advertiser.
