Teignmouth comprehensively overcame Premier Division opponents Bovey Tracey to secure a trip to Holsworthy in the next round.

Teigns set a high tempo from the start and soon had the visitors under pressure. Lloyd Gardner's cross was met by Jamie Surman who headed just wide of the post.

The visitors were not given time to settle on the ball and in the 11th minute Teigns sliced them apart.

A long pass from captain Alex Blackburn put Adam Hill clear on the right and his whipped cross was volleyed home at the near post past visiting keeper Buckler by Mark Dyson, who was up against his former club.

Bovey responded with a shot from distance that failed to trouble home keeper Darren Shrubb.

Ian Wilkinson's clever pass put Hill clean through on goal but his finish was ruled out by an offside flag.

With 20 minutes gone Hill did get on the scoresheet, reacting first to steal a headed back pass and place the ball wide off Buckler's right hand.

Surman and Blackburn were strong and confident at the back and Shrubb had very little to do. Andy Breslan filled the right back berth and gave a strong display of tackling and intelligent distribution, while Ashley Webber's overlapping runs from left back created panic in Bovey's defence.

Teigns had their opponents under the cosh a third goal was inevitable, and on the half hour it came – Wilkinson's corner was headed back across goal by Blackburn and Fay was on hand to sweep the ball home.

Bovey finally muster a direct attack, Robinson firing in a shot that Shrubb saved, before Blackburn rose well to head clear a dangerous cross.

Harding then shot wide for the visitors as they tried to pull a goal back, but it was the home side who should have increased their lead on the stroke of half-time. Fay held the ball up well and laid a perfect pass to Craig Stonelake whose effort was smothered by Buckler.

Bovey came out of the blocks strongly after half-time forcing Teigns back.

In the 52nd minute, Shrubb received a red card for a professional foul on former Teignmouth player Sneap. Fay donned the keeper's jersey and gloves and Teigns found themselves down to ten men for the second week running.

This time, however, they kept their shape and discipline, and Bovey could not use their extra man advantage.

Superb performances from Wilkinson, Gardner and Stonelake ensured Teigns never lost control of the game.

After a foul on Gardner, Wilkinson drove the resulting 30-yard free-kick against Bovey's cross bar with Buckler stranded.

The introduction of player manager Tom Kelly for the visitors still didn't loosen Teigns' grip on the game.

With ten minutes remaining, Terry Breslan replaced Hill, but by now Bovey were resigned to a cup exit.

Dyson had a goal ruled out for offside and, with minutes left, shot agonisingly wide of the post.

Teignmouth joint manager Andy Paddon was pleased with his side discipline, workrate and direct approach.

Tomorrow, Teignmouth return to league action when Stoke Gabriel visit Coombe Valley, kick-off 3pm.
