A SERVICE is being held at the Point tomorrow for a Teignmouth-built boat that saved 630 men in the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940.

The Lady Cable (right) was among the flotilla of small craft that took British and French servicemen off the beaches as the Germans closed in.

The little 40ft craft was the last to leave, and survived despite shelling and air attacks.

She is now in a Totnes boatyard in need of a complete restoration and is not seaworthy enough to make the voyage to Teignmouth.

But Preb Graham Stones, rector of Teignmouth, will lead a short service of thanksgiving and give thanks for all the lives she saved.
