The town has strong links with France, and has been twinned with Perros-Guirec in Brittany for many years, with regular exchanges.

On Monday a one minute silence was also held in the Triangle, with the Tricolour at half-mast, to remember the victims of the killings, and was attended by members of the public, councillors and Royal British Legion members.

Tracey Higgs, town clerk said: ’What happened in Paris was an awful tragedy, and we felt it was important to pay our respect to those who lost their lives. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected’.
