A disgruntled Teignmouth resident writes: Musical cars – for three months we play this game and believe me it is no fun. Yet according to Mr Heath at our local DCC service group, quote: 'Teignmouth does not have a parking problem, if you are prepared to walk a short distance from the town centre.' We who live near to the seafront would strongly disagree with this. There is nowhere free outside our homes, it is no joke having to keep going in and out all day long moving to the various restricted places. We cannot even park on a meter for more than four hours and now have to pay on a Sunday, whereas that used to be free. Yes, we could pay to go in the car park all day, but that would add to up to a considerable amount for the summer season. Again we could buy a season ticket, but that does not guarantee a parking space and in the height of the summer we see the cars queuing to get in there. The final alternative is the yearly permit, which amounts to £10 a week, which is he quotes 'good value compared with say, the additional costs of buying a house with off road parking'. Apparently a survey was done during the winter months, and no problems were found. I think we would all agree there is no problem in the winter as half the restrictions do not apply and Teignmouth is considerably quieter then. According to Mr Heath, he will be doing another survey in the summer! We have lost several spaces in the past few months and now with the work about to begin in Northumberland Place a few more have gone. I wonder does anyone know where the four new spaces are? I've yet to see them. In a couple of weeks time another road will close, behind Booth's, so even less places will be available. Is it not about time some thought was given to the residents who live near the seafront that have no parking facilities? We are talking about the three months covering the height of the season.
