A KINGSTEIGNTON councillor will be walking across hot coals next month to raise money for the town’s youth centre.

Town and county councillor, Tony Dempster, is taking part in the Newton Abbot Rotary Club’s fire walk at Newton Abbot Racecourse on Thursday, October 9.

The event is being held to raise money for charities and causes chosen by those taking part, with Tony choosing to support the youth centre.

He is now looking for sponsorship ahead of the event.

Tony said the centre supports young people, particularly those with disabilities or who face other challenges in their lives.

‘Every young person deserves the opportunity to feel included, supported and able to enjoy life, whatever challenges they may face’, he said.

‘The charity this fundraiser will support work to give young people those opportunities and that is something I really want to get behind’.

Tony admitted that taking part in the fire walk would be well outside his comfort zone.

The event starts at 6pm and participants will be asked to pay a £25 entry fee, unless this is covered by their chosen charity.

They must also raise a minimum of £75 in sponsorship.

Rotarian Martin Smith said the fire walk will allow people to raise money for a charity or cause that matters to them, with the money going directly to their nominated charity.

There will be free parking, food and refreshments and charity stalls supporting local causes.
