ISOLATED MP Anne Marie Morris has been banned from the Conservative Party ‘indefinitely’, it has been revealed.
Staff at the Chief Whip’s office in Westminster made the revelation on Tuesday morning.
The 60-year-old found herself at the centre of a media storm last month after she described the UK leaving the EU without a deal as a ‘real n****r in the woodpile.’
The Newton Abbot MP’s racist slur was made at a meeting of Eurosceptics in London and many senior figures including Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn have condemned her comment.
Since the saga unfolded Ms Morris appears to have gone into hiding and she hasn’t said a word about the incident.
In a bid to find out how long her suspension would be the Mid-Devon Advertiser contacted Ms Morris directly but without success.
The paper then tried her parliamentary assistant who didn’t know anything and passed us onto the Tory press office – which directed us to the next port of call which was the Government Whip’s office.
They drew a blank and passed us on to the Chief Whip’s office which finally answered our question.
A spokesman said: ‘Anne Marie Morris’ suspension is indefinite and will be reviewed from time to time.
‘It’s not a fixed time and no indication of how long it will be has been given to me.’
Anne Marie was asked to comment but her parliamentary assistant said there was ‘no further comment.’
After her slip-up hit the media Ms Morris made an unreserved apology.
President of Newton Abbot Conservative Association Sylvia Russell was unavailable to comment.
Following advice from the security team at the House of Commons the location of Ms Morris’ surgeries are being kept a secret. To meet up with her you now have to book an appointment.
