Like so many towns and villages across Teignbridge, Bovey Tracey has its own war memorial to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars.

As part of War Graves Week, which runs from May 21-28, Colonel Mark Bailey will be conducting a tour of Bovey Tracey cemetery this weekend, pointing out the war graves of those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

He said: ‘The Commonwealth War Graves Commission looks after the graves of an underage Commando, to women, Bovey’s oldest war casualty and a 10-year-old boy, among others.’

Mark, a member of the town’s Heritage Trust, will tell their stories and explain the work of the commission in the UK where some 173,000 war dead are buried.

The tour begins at 11am on Saturday, May 21. Meet at the cemetery in Ccombe Lane, no booking is required.
