IF only two roundabouts were provided to a proposed trunk road service area and 80-bed budget hotel at Ilford Park, near Drumbridges, vehicles could end up queuing back to the A38.

Trago Mills, the out of town shopping and leisure complex next to the site, contends the £20 million development would have an impact on its store compromising its vitality and viability and the local economy.

It is objecting to the outline proposals maintaining that three roundabouts, one of which would link the existing complex access road with the service area, is the answer to avoid tailbacks and extra carbon dioxide emissions.

The application by Arnold White Estates Ltd and Sibelco UK Ltd has been forwarded to Teignbridge Council planners calling for an extension of the time limit to replace permission for the service area, hotel and restaurant/pub with associated car parking. It will go before the development control committee in due course.
