THREE bridges in Kingskerswell which cross the new South Devon Highway will close briefly for routine maintenance work this coming week.
The new A380 South Devon Highway will not be affected by the closures, which are required to ensure the safety of workers and road users.
Routine works are required to the expansion joints on the bridges at Yon Street, Maddacombe Road and the new Aller Link Road.
The closures are being timed to avoid rush hour traffic and minimise disruption to local road users. Signed temporary diversion routes will be in place.
The closures are: Tuesday, May 23, 7pm-3am, Yon Street bridge; and on Wednesday, May 24, Maddacombe Road will be closed 7pm-3am. In addition, the new bridge on the Aller Link Road is planned to close for about two hours between 7pm and 3am, with traffic able to use the old bridge on Aller Road.
In the event of bad weather, a contigency has been planned for Thursday, May 25, 7pm- 3am for any of the bridge works.
Ian Yelf, contracts manager for Galliford Try which is carrying out the work, said: ‘To limit disruption we aim to complete the works by midnight each day but require the longer periods for the closure as a contingency. Noisy work is planned to be restricted to the hours before 11pm.’
He added: ‘These minor works are part of our year one inspection and maintenance regime. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and plan to get the work done as quickly and safely as possible.’
