THREE for the price of one is on offer from the Teignmouth Players at their Ice Factory theatre.
Celebrated local writer and director Eleanor Fossey is directing three one-act plays under the title Double Decking, which derives from her first play, Doubling, and two plays by Jean McConnell from her Deckchairs series.
Eleanor is best known for her award winning one act plays and two radio plays commissioned by the BBC. She says Doubling was inspired by things that really did happen while she was assisting a director during rehearsals for another of her plays, Head to Head. Set in the world of amateur dramatics it depicts a director attempting to rehearse one play while appearing in another.
The two plays by Jean are Late Frost, which follows a recent bereavement when a widow meets her best friend, in an encounter which creates a dramatic impact on their close relationship, and Daytrippers, which has two colleagues, one confident and one prudish, learning more about themselves and their colleagues than they ought to during a brilliantly funny works outing.
Mary has assembled a stellar cast for Double Deckers, including Karen Allen, voted best actress in 2012; Sarah Mallet who won a clutch of awards appearing as the budgie ‘Sparky’ in the 2015 theatre festivals; Elaine Harvey who played the outraged wife in Faking Genuine this year, and carried off two best actress awards, and Tracey Burton, who won best actress appearing in Daytrippers in Cornwall, in Festival plays in 2015.
