It is with interest that I have followed through your columns the various debates related to Teignmouth's recurring issues and I wonder if the following suggestion would give mutually beneficial solutions to two of them – skateboarding and encouraging coach tourism.

Could the skateboarding facility be bsed in East Cliff car park with coach parking re-located to the site of the disused paddling pool?

The former could be built on the most appropriate and acceptable part of the car park and the whole of the remaining area redesigned to accommodate the maximum number of car parking spaces.

The provision for car parking would probably require some minor modifications to the roadway to allow access and possibly some changes to traffic management arrangements in the Powderham Terrace/sea front areas, but these would to an extent depend upon the number of parking bays to be provided.

At the moment, the 12 bays in East Cliff car park are never filled and my casual observations over the last three or four years suggest the maximum number of coaches rarely exceeds four, an indication that 12 bays are unnecessary even allowing for optimistic increases in visitor numbers.

A further consequence of removing coaches from East Cliff car park would be the need to move the National Express stop and this could be re-sited with many benefts at the train station bus stop/bay.

The derelict shelter at East Cliff could be removed and the whole area made more presentable.
