TWO women – one pregnant –were rescued after being trapped on Ness Cove, Shaldon, this morning March 27, after a landslip blocked the access tunnel to the beauty spot.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.45am by members of the public who witnessed the incident.
Firefighters managed to rescue the trapped pair by using a ladder.
Coastguards were hoping to send rescuers down on a line over the cliff but rocks were considered too unstable in the light of the collapse nearby.
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras at the location to check no one was trapped under the rubble.
Police cordoned off the old smugglers' tunnel at the Shaldon side to protect the public.
