A COMMUNITY orchard will soon be blossoming in Kingskerswell thanks to the hard work of local councillor Roger Jones and the members of the Kingskerswell Action Group.
Roger formed the group three years ago with the intention of restoring the overgrown Fore Street car park in the centre of the village, but once this was done, they all just kept going, and have planted more than 8,000 crocuses and an unbelievable 24,000 daffodils alongside the village roads.
The two Victoria plums, together with two apples trees and two pear trees, are the finishing touch to a former area of waste ground adjoining the A380 near Coles Lane which the group has transformed into a beautiful garden with benches to sit, flower beds and a fairy garden for children to play in.
The next target for the group is this year’s Britain in Bloom competition.
There are now flower beds all over the village, sponsored by local companies and lovingly tended by the volunteers.
‘We are all hoping for great things when the judges arrive,’ said county councillor Alistair Dewhirst.
‘Roger and the group have worked incredibly hard over the last three years and have totally transformed forgotten and unloved areas of the village into places we can all enjoy.’
