A phone box library that has raised over £13,000 for charity since it was set up ten years ago has closed due to repeated vandalism.

The Martin Gallery in Ringmore, Shaldon, was created by Nia and Mary Pearson as a way of sharing the written word while raising money for Cancer Research UK.

However, the latest act of vandalism has left the money safe beyond repair.

‘It is with profound regret that we have had to close the Martin Gallery permanently,’ a Facebook post announced. ‘The expensive super secure safe for the money has been vandalised beyond repair. This was a high quality safe and we cannot afford to keep renewing it every time someone decides to try and steal its contents.’
