TWO stained glass windows have been smashed in a spate of vandalism at the grade II listed Dawlish United Reformed Church.
The windows were battered from the outside, sending shards flying into the foyer and twisting the leadwork. It is expected that the repair bill could run to £2,000.
Minister the Rev Ken Hibberd said that the incident on Thursday night was the latest in a spate of vandalism. An old-fashioned street lamp has been smashed and an interior window smashed in the past 10 days.
The damage was discovered by church secretary Rosemary Holmes on Friday morning. Mr Hibberd said: 'The church dates back to 1841 and we understand that the windows are as old as that. 'They are part of the fabric of the church and we expect it will cost a lot to put right,' he said.
