VICTORIAN-era business M&Co announced that it will be closing its doors for good in the spring.
The manager of the store, located on Bank Street, announced that a new buyer of the store had not been found. Although the M&Co brand will continue, 'this does not include a future for our stores, website or staff.'
Trading will continue until around April.
The closure is part of a wider closure of all 170 stores in England, amounting to a loss of over 2,000 jobs.
The store manager stated: 'Unfortunately the news we received yesterday was not what we were all hoping for. As we haven't received any funded, deliverable offers that would result in the transfer of the Company's stores or staff to a potential buyer, this means that all of our stores will now close and all staff will be made redundant.
'The M&Co 'Brand' has been purchased, but unfortunately, this does not include a future for our stores, website or staff. We will trade all of our stores until April. Updating you closer to the time of our actual closing date.
'We will do our very best to assist you with any queries you may have but ask that you understand we are following guidelines from our administrators.
'We look forward to welcoming you in store over the next couple of months and ask that you treat our team with kindness and respect in what is a very difficult time for us all.'
