Dawlish Warren's summer has had a flying start with the announcement that the highly prestigious Blue Flag award status has been retained for a fifth year in succession.
The European Blue Flag Award is awarded only to those beaches that pass the very strictest of criteria for environmental management, visitor facilities, cleanliness and clean bathing waters.
This year's accolade is expected to be flown in by helicopter, demonstrating the sky really is the limit when it comes to how much Dawlish Warren can achieve as the fifth most popular family beach resort in the UK.
Cllr Gordon Hook, Teignbridge environment spokesman, said: 'We are delighted to be able to fly this European Flag for yet another year. It's testament to Teignbridge Council's commitment to caring for the resort all year round in partnership with local traders.
'The award criteria is very strict and there was a lot of competition this year. However, Dawlish Warren has demonstrated its worth once again, reaffirming its recent placing as one of the most popular resort beaches in the country.'
In true celebratory style, today will also mark the official opening of the Dawlish Warren Trading Company at the Warren.
The original shop was burned to the ground almost exactly two years ago after an arson attack.
Pinder Benning, managing director of the company, said: 'My family and I have invested in Dawlish Warren because it is a vibrant family resort now, and has the potential for a great future.
'We would like to express our grateful thanks to Teignbridge Council for their help and guidance, also to the team of contractors, who enabled the store to be rebuilt from scratch in time for the season. In addition to Teignbridge Council, all the businesses at Dawlish Warren have been investing to improve facilities.
'With the completion of our store, Dawlish Warren now provides a complete package of amenities for visitors and local people alike.'
