A W Ellacott, hon treasurer of The League of Friends of Teignmouth Hospital, writes:
In her letter published in the Teignmouth Post dated May 25, Christine Lavers expresses her concern that the NHS is misleading the public by emphasising the probable benefits on rehousing the GP surgeries, and ignoring the effects of closing the hospital.
Her fear is confirmed by the letters from Dr Karakusivic and Vicky Coulson, a member of the Health and Wellbeing team, printed in your May 11 and May 25 editions. Both promote the relocation of the GPs practices, but ignore the loss of hospital services.
If the hospital closes, do nearby hospitals have the capacity to absorb the many procedures being lost at Teignmouth without increasing their waiting times, which are already unacceptably long. Which hospitals would we have to use?
We must know the full picture if the ‘Teignmouth Engagement Questionnaire’ is to have any meaningful significance.
