AN eight-year-old Teignmouth girl is preparing to race five kilometres in memory of her grandmother. Ruby Dart, a pupil at Shaldon Primary School, is raising sponsorship for the Cancer Research UK Race for Life, held in Torbay on May 13. Ruby and her mum Stevey Nuttall will race in the all-women event in memory of Gail Nuttall, who died of lung cancer in 2004, aged 46. The pair hope to raise more than their target of £150. Mrs Nuttall took part in the 2005 race and is hopeful that people will get behind them for a worthy cause. She said: 'We are hoping to get as many sponsors as possible. The more money raised for Cancer Research, the more chances we have of beating cancer.' A secure on-line sponsoring page has been set up by the charity.
