DESPITE, torrential rain, gail force winds and hail storms intrepid cycling duo Richard Whitehouse and Andrew ’Sammy’ Squirrell have completed their epic cycle challenge raising more than £3,000 in the process.
The saddle-sore duo crossed the finishing line at The Den on Saturday afternoon after their 303-mile epic south coast two-wheel trip that started in Dover a week earlier.
‘We had a horrendous first few days weather-wise,’ they both admitted.
‘The days were a bit a longer than planned as we dealt with some very unseasonal rain, high winds and even hail, we’re over the moon to have completed the ride on schedule.’
Both Richard, from Bovey Tracey, and Sammy, from Teignmouth, are former police officers who now work as driver training officers with the South Western Ambulance Service.
The aim of the trip was to raise money for two charities. First up is CFENC (The Charitable Foundation for the Education of Nepalese Children), a charity that is run by Rich’s sister to help with the education of Nepalese children.
Also benefitting was the South Western Ambulance charity which raises money to help communities in the South West helping to support volunteers with the service and give support to those on the frontline within the South West Ambulance Service.
All the money raised will be divided equally between the two worthy causes.
The donation page set up is still active and anyone wishing to make a contribution or learn more about the two charities can visit https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/TeamSammyandRich.
