CHRISTMAS may be behind us but that does not mean the spectacle is over – far from it in fact.
There is still a chance to soak up some of the festive fun, in Teignmouth for instance, at 12 Portland Avenue to be exact.
Having transformed her garage into a ‘winter wonderland’ many years ago, Sally Beers is once again inviting the public to come and see her fantastical creation.
‘It is like a model village only it is Santa’s village - “what would you see in Santa’s village?”’ Sally said.
‘There are buildings made out of resin, some are plastic and some are china.
‘They are arranged into a village so there is a post office, Christmas cracker toy shop, Elf workshop, Santa’s Grotto and much more.
‘I did have a lawn display too which was all lit up but the wind has damaged some of it’ she added.
Sally began collecting the festive-themed memorabilia which would eventually become a part of the 16-foot creation as early as the 1980s.
‘It can’t get any bigger now because it is taking up the whole of the garage!’ Sally said.
‘I started collecting items back in the ’80s and into the ’90s too.
‘I initially brought a few pieces home from America because it was a big thing out there at that time.
‘A lot of people are coming back for a second visit, I think they are quite surprised – they never realsied what was behind the garage door!’ she added.
Each year Sally fundraises for a different charity, having previously raised some £700 for Dogs Trust.
This year she will be raising funds for Parkison’s disease; a cause close to her heart as her partner, Anthony, passed away from the disease in 2022.
Sally has already raised around £400.
‘Anthony used to help me with it, I did it on my own first of all but when I met him he got involved with it and helped me’ Sally said.
► Those wanting to catch a glimpse of Sally’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ at 12 Portland Avenue, Teignmouth, have until January 31 to do so.
The opening times are from 3pm to 9pm, Monday to Sunday.
