With the weather getting warmer, you may be thinking about where to take a break this summer - and if you’re looking for something unique, you may not have to look too far.
The Gun House, in Shaldon, is a one-of-a-kind former guard tower from World War II which has been redesigned to offer a “romantic hideaway” on the banks of the River Teign.

The tower, which has been featured on ‘George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces’, was originally topped with a small gun and a searchlight, and was used to protect the mouth of the river in the 1940s.
In the past, the guard room has also been used as an artists’ studio, before being sold in 2014 and converted into a holiday let.

Inside, there is an open-plan lounge, kitchen and diner with sliding windows providing sea views and a built-in coffee machine.
Downstairs, there is a king-sized bedroom with an en-suite shower room, which features a rainfall shower and LED mirror.

There are various other modern comforts throughout the property, including underfloor heating, mood lighting and a Bluetooth speaker.
Outside, there are two seating areas with “idyllic” sea views, a grill barbecue, recliners and an enclosed private garden space.

The house is on the south bank of the river, and is a short 50-metre stroll to the beach.
The owner described the Gun House as a “romantic hideaway like no other, with panoramic sea views and luxury, situated in an unrivalled location.
“Although small in appearance, don’t be fooled as the inside space has been perfectly designed to ensure you’re equipped with everything you need.”
