Free entry, affordable events and a summer packed with creativity – The Box is inviting people of all ages to make the most of the holidays with a packed and exciting programme of activities as part of its ‘Summer of Expression’.
From calming family yoga sessions and acoustic live music to curator talks and artist-led workshops, there's something for everyone throughout August and into September. The events complement the Art Fund Museum of the Year's major summer exhibitions, Gillian Ayres: A Life in Colour and Echoes of Us, giving you even more reasons to visit and get involved!
Families can enjoy theatrical storytelling events for younger children and relaxing family yoga sessions inspired by the bold and colourful paintings in the Gillian Ayres exhibition.
Adults can delve deeper into the programme through curator talks, gallery tours and artist-led workshops, while young people can take part in Climate Cafés that encourage discussion around identity, community and the environment (12-24 year olds).
The programme also includes a series of lively events for everyone to enjoy, from free Live Music Fridays to an action-packed Skate Jam celebrating creativity on wheels. September begins with the return of the ever-popular Drag Night, promising an evening of entertainment, laughter and dazzling performances and continues with creative Cake Decorating Classes.
Sara Rhodes, Learning and Engagement Manager, said: "We want The Box to be a place where everyone feels welcome and inspired. This summer's programme reflects that ambition, with opportunities to get creative, discover something new, spend time together and enjoy unforgettable experiences.”
Many of The Box’s activities are free, while some require advance booking.
