Schoolchildren from the South Dartmoor Academy, which comprises South Dartmoor Community College and the four primary schools of Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Ilsington and Widecombe-in-the-Moor, have been picked to be part of a guard of honour that lines the route as athletes make their way through the Olympic Park into the Olympic Stadium, for the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on 27 July.
At the start of the athletes' parade, during the procession from the Olympic Village to the Olympic Stadium, the eight South Dartmoor Academy students – Hugo White, Emily Broughton, Jamie Bishop, Jess Dobson, all South Dartmoor; Rhys Sheryn, Ashburton; Charlie Morgan, Buckfastleigh; Daisy Venn, Ilsington; Molly Way, Widecombe – will join 249 other schools from across the UK to make up the 2,000-student guard of honour.
