BOVEY Tracey Golf Centre hosted the annual Turkey Trot on Saturday, December 6, although sadly, the golf couldn’t take place due to the awful overnight weather.

Spirits were not dampened though as nearly 100 people attended the fabulous Christmas meal, raffle, auctions and prize presentation.

The club’s senior captain Pete Whitelegg started proceedings announcing the four randomly drawn winners of the turkeys who were Aaron Hutchings, Terry Gibson, Jim Donovan and Stuart Guest.

Next, men’s captain Scott Tomlinson started part one of the amazing charity auction with everyone giving generously.

Ness O’Brien kickstarted the prize presentation for all the annual club trophies and celebrated Bovey Tracey ladies’ achievements in county competitions this year.

Back to Scott for part two of the auction with bids coming in thick and fast. The star lot, a holiday in a villa in Alcrossbre, Spain for up to 14 nights and kindly donated by Courtnay Packer, raised £620.

The total raised at the Turkey Trot, through the raffle, auction and hole sponsorship was £6,050 an AMAZING amount for the well-deserving charity Young Lives vs Cancer.

It really was a special day with Pete’s daughter Lydia and grandson Hugo in attendance to enjoy the meal and auction, Hugo having just recently finished his cancer treatment.

So far, the running total for the charity is £7,296 from September 1 to now.

Thanks go to everyone who donated raffle prizes, bought raffle tickets and bid at the auction.

The hole sponsors were: Gareth George Simplified Mortgages, Aaron Hutchings Carpet Fitter, Thomas Electrical Distributers, PGS Garden Maintenance, SMS Drywall Ltd Price First Taxis, The Kiosk Totnes, Paul Edwards Building Services and JA Electrical Contractors Ltd.
