BOVEY TRACEY

ALASTAIR Franklin and Tyler Smith of Bovey Tracey won their County Men's Pairs semi-final against Nigel Coombs and Dave Woods from Abbrook Park in a match of changing fortunes. In the final they will face another Abbrook team.

In the County Ladies' Benevolent Triples at Chudleigh; Christina Towle, Sue Johnson and Heidi Call won against teams from Shaldon and Chudleigh to reach a home semi-final which they lost to ladies from Bitton Park.

Bovey secured a much-needed result in the Men's Mid Devon League, winning by 12-2 at home against Torquay B.

In the ladies' SDL, Bovey achieved two good results during the week, narrowly losing out to a strong Kings side and then taking all 10 points off of Starcross.

Both the men's Over 55s teams were at home this week. The X-men won by 6-2 against division leaders Newton Abbot whilst the Ys gained two points to Bitton’s six.

At Paignton Torbay, in a particularly enjoyable mixed triples friendly, Bovey won on three rinks taking the overall victory by 78 shots to 52.

NEWTON ABBOT

With a recent upturn in SDL results, Newton Abbot ladies have recorded a couple of good wins in turn over Bitton Park and Brixham Furzeham to pull away from the bottom two.

Likewise in the MDL Premier League, the men’s A-Team followed up a narrow defeat to Kings with wins over Abbrook Park A and Paignton A.

Newton’s men's B-Team are in with an outside chance of gaining promotion with several twists and turns still to come, whereas the C-Team are currently bottom but have a few games still to play.

Newton Abbot continue to play tourists with Ware Bowling Club recently visiting and next up is Welsh Team Ystalyfera Bowling Club (good luck to Newton’s captain pronouncing that one!) who are due on August 16.

Lastly, a couple of members will be going on the Annual Bowls Devon Mixed Tour this year.
