ONE month into the new season, Chudleigh Bowling Club are looking forward with optimism.
Opening early on April 4 allowed the club to have an early opening day from which several new members have been gained. There will be another open day in May where there is a blank day in the fixture calendar.
For the first time, Chudleigh men have two teams in the MDL which will enable many more people to experience playing league bowls.
The B team had their first outing early in the season away at Totnes B. Despite having many unavailabilities, Chudleigh fielded a full team though Totnes were short.
On adjusted scores, Chudleigh won two and drew one rink but unfortunately lost heavy on the fourth rink and therefore on overall score. For a first outing though, it was a very promising evening.
In friendlies, Chudleigh went to Plymstock for their regular season opener and despite Chudleigh winning on three of the five rinks, Plymstock won overall 71-69.
Fixtures followed against Starcoss drawn 90-90, Ottery St Mary lost 60-78, Chagford won 75-63, Heavitree won 83-74, Bovey Tracey 33-14 before the heavens opened and Phear Park won 76-36.
If there are people in Chudleigh who fancy the idea of “having a go” please come down to the club evenings which are held on Wednesday at the Kate Brook sports centre starting at 6 o’clock.
You will be very welcome and keep your eyes opened for details of the next open day. Bowls is a great sport and available to all people regardless of age, ability and gender where you can be as competitive as you want to be or just to play socially.
Currently the age range of Chudleigh bowling club is 14-84 so don’t be put off or think bowls is a game for old people.
