NOT only did Chudleigh's Over 55s Y-team qualify for the end of season playoffs at Marldon Bowling Club last week for the first time, they went on to win too.

In the semis against Babbacombe, Chudleigh won one rink comfortably and drew the other to advance.

The final promised an exciting clash with powerhouse club Kings of Torquay.

Kings were in a commanding position when they won one rink 21-8 and had a 5-shot aggregate lead until Chudleigh skip Andy Sinden flipped the script.

With his last bowl on both final ends, he turned a losing end into a 3-point win, taking them to a 34-33 victory overall.

Meanwhile, the outstanding club competition finals have been and gone at Bovey Tracey.

Jason Hampton won the men’s championship by default with Andy Walding unable to compete due to illness and Jason also won the handicap, beating Roger Bailey.

Roger paired with Tyler Smith to claim the pair’s crown ahead of Mike Holness and Keith Lockett.

In the ladies’ handicap, Sarah Breame beat Annettee Isaaks, Heidi Call and Anne Marie McCue won the pairs final against Lynn Cridge and Deborah Bailey with Tracey Waygood claiming the Ley Cup vs Andy Cromwell.

Bovey's last friendly, a mixed triples away at Bitton Park resulted in defeat by three rinks to one and by seven shots, despite an impressive win by Phil Cridge's rink.

The club also had a visit from touring team Byfleet (Surrey) before the annual closing of the green ceremony saw the president’s team beat the captain’s team once more.

Lastly to Newton Abbot who put on a floodlit bowls night for the first time which can only be described as a complete success.

With everything from solar-powered lights to head torches, the music was played and a fun night was had by all. They also hosted a Welsh touring team recently, featuring darts ace Terry Jenkins.
