WITH the new season well underway now, there have been mixed results at Chudleigh Bowling Club in the last fortnight.
In friendly matches, there was a 68-55 success at home to Yealmpton followed by a defeat at Ilsington 55-75 on their carpet, which several of the Chudleigh bowlers struggled to get to grips with, although everybody enjoyed the tea provided by the hosts.
Following this, the Sunday friendly at Plympton was washed out through torrential rain in the Plymouth area.
On Sunday 18, Chudleigh’s new strip was unveiled in a friendly for the first time in a match at home to Crediton over six triples. Numerous substitutions were made at halftime by Chudleigh in this fixture due to an abundance of players, but Crediton still won 100-77 in a very enjoyable encounter.
Elsewhere there have been defeats in two national competitions, against Shaldon in the men’s two fours and against Kings in the Tony Allcock trophy. In between all these games in the county 2-woods competition, Steve Edwards lost to Kevin Hunt at Newton Abbot while Ian Ramsay defeated Mike Ferguson at Dawlish Lawn.
Meanwhile, in the women’s unbadged singles, Margie Wilson lost to Mandy Lynch at Newton Abbot. In the ladies’ Interclub, Chudleigh were defeated by Great Torrington on the neutral green at Crediton.
In the Over 55s league, the season has started with defeat at Ipplepen and at home to Bitton Park. A successful open day was held on May 17 with many potential new recruits trying their hand at bowls on a very pleasant day at Kate Brook.
