ANOTHER season of outdoor bowls at Newton Abbot BC has come and gone following the closing of the green day on Saturday, September 27.

The ups and downs of the year are as follows. Firstly, a magnificent season was had by the men's C-team in the MDL, gaining promotion to Division Three for next season. Well done guys and here’s hoping you do well in the higher division.

Unfortunately, the men's B-team were relegated to Division Three so fingers crossed it’s only a short stay and they come back up next season.

Congratulations to the men in the Over 55s Triples League on winning the X Division under the captaincy of Steve Doyle. The ladies consolidated their place in the SDL Premier League thanks to a strong fourth-placed finish.

On to the club competitions and there were plenty of titles to be won.

Isobel Burley claimed the ladies' championship, Phil Underhill the men’s championship, Catherine Pickett the ladies' two-wood singles and Kate Kennedy the ladies’ Daphne Man Cup.

Phil Underhill triumphed in both the men’s seniors and the open singles, Russell Smithers won the President’s Cup, Jane Hallwood and Julia Barnes the ladies’ pairs, Paul Hawkins & Russell Smithers the men’s pairs and Simon Boyce & Kevin Hunt the club pairs.

Finally, Max Dick and Nigel Godwin triumphed in the men’s two-wood handicap and the club triples champions were Roger Shaddick, Jane Hallwood and Steve Doyle.

Well done to all of the winners and commiserations to the runners-up, there's always next season!

Congratulations to Isobel Burley and Julia Barnes on being members who played in The Johns and winning the trophy up at Leamington Spa.

Dave Pickett will next season be Devon Senior Vice President after fulfilling his duties as Devon Junior Vice President this year.
