UNFORTUNATELY, since their opening win in the SDL, Newton Abbot Bowls Club ladies have suffered two home defeats.

Firstly, they lost 7-3 to Abbrook Park and then 10-0 to Babbacombe but it is still early days, so onwards and upwards.

Newton Abbot hosted the ladies Senior Fours with two rinks from entering said competition.

Catherine Pickett’s rink lost out narrowly to Bitton Park who then went on to beat the other four, Julie Barnes’ rink, who had won their first game.

There were wins for the men’s A-team and B-team, the A-team overcoming Torbay Country Club by 12 to two in the MDL and the B-team making it three in a row by beating Abbrook Park 14-0.

In the Tony Allcock Trophy, two mixed rinks from Newton Abbot travelled to Topsham. One lost by four shots and the other won by three, losing out by just one on the final wood of the game.

The club have already played around 10 friendly matches with another coming up against Topsham on June 7.

Meanwhile, Hemel Hempstead are the next touring team coming to town, towards the end of June.
