Buckland Athletic's FA Cup dream ended at Homer's Heath on Saturday when they went down 2-1 to Blue Square Conference South Division side Bath City.

The visitors made the better start, but Buckland settled and more than held their own against the visitors, who play at a level three tiers higher.

The hosts made a bright start to the second half and in the 51st minute, Gavin Hammon sent the home faithful wild with delight when he smashed the ball home from just outside the box to put Buckland in front. The goal was Hammon's 15th in 13 games.

The lead, however, proved short-lived, Bath equalising seven minutes later with a long-range shot.

The visitors booked their place in the next round when their centre-forward headed home a cross in the 71st minute.

Tomorrow, Buckland return to Toolstation West League Premier Division action when they travel to play second in the table Cadbury Heath, kick-off 3pm.

l Tom Sercombe bagged four goals as Newton Abbot Spurs ran out 5-1 winners at Okehampton Argyle in the first round of the Throgmorton Cup, Adam Dyson Spurs' other scorer.

Bovey Tracey, however, fell at the first hurdle, going down 2-1 at Alphington.

Tomorrow, Bovey return to Carlsberg South West Peninsula Premier Division action when they play host to Ivybridge Town, kick-off 3pm, while Newton Abbot Spurs are away to Sidmouth Town in the East Division, kick-off 3pm
