BOVEY Tracey 2nd XI motored out of the B Division bottom two on the back of a 135-run win at Braunton.

Bovey’s total of 273 for eight proved well beyond the reach of Braunton, who were bowled out for 138.

Bovey got away to a flying start with a ton-up partnership between openers Sam Veal (61) and Ryan Jones (49) – and there were plenty more runs in the locker.

Rapid runs by George Pitman (28) and Dan Green (20) were complimented by even quicker scores from Ed Foreman (29) and Gethin Williams (29no).

Braunton’s back-up bowling bore the brunt of Bovey’s onslaught, although Callum Mitchell (4-45), Dan Brierley (1-33) and Steve Moore (1-39) avoided the worst of it.

Reddick (23) then Sam Bithell (53) took Braunton to 91 for two in reply after 20 overs, but that was as good as it got.

Wickets for Green (3-28), Chris Yabsley (2-32) and two run outs fermented a collapse from 91 for two to 113 for eight and on to 138 all out.

Winning captain Green said: “We know we still have things to work on, but it was a good result.”

Elsewhere, Bideford moved clear of the danger zone with a whopping 257-run win over table-proppers Abbotskerswell.

Tom Brend followed his 84 seven days earlier with a 121 in Bideford’s mammoth total of 372 for six.

A four-wicket burst from Josh King helped reduce Abbots to 44 for six. There was resistance from skipper Ed Smout-Cooper, but on its own, that was not enough to prevent his side being bowled out for 115.

Abbots are now 19 points adrift at the bottom and desperate for a win.

“We know there's a lot to do now to stay up, but we have to keep turning up and stay positive,” said Toby Codd, the player-coach.

Brend and James Ford (59) set the tone for Bideford with an opening stand of 128. By the time Brend was dismissed, he had added another 128 with James Hayter (66).

Jack Ford (31) and the Hannam brothers – Alex (29) and Ollie (21no) kept the runs coming to the end.

Wicket-taking was an expensive pastime for Smout-Cooper (3-98) and Anthony Miller (2-65).

King (4-24) and Jim Keates (2-35) quickly had Abbots six down. Smout-Cooper’s 43 was the only score above 13 on their way out.

Said Codd: “Hats off to Bideford. We were completely outplayed by a better team.”
