LUSTLEIGH continued their strong start to the season with another full points victory away to Manaton/Moreton on Wednesday, May 20.
Kindly sponsored by Lustleigh Dairy & Post Office, the visitors batted first and posted an impressive total of 182.
The innings got off to a flying start with openers Harry Bannister and Paddy Poustie both batting positively and retiring on 25 after finding the boundary regularly. John Wright continued the momentum at number three, also retiring after an innings featuring several huge sixes.
In the middle overs, Matt Pearce (17) and Mike Wright (15) added valuable runs before Steve Parker and Marcus Manners-Chapman finished the innings strongly with some excellent late hitting to push Lustleigh up to 182.
In reply, Manaton/Moreton struggled to deal with the pace of Dave Saxton and the accurate spin bowling of Alex Spring. Both bowlers claimed two wickets apiece and made scoring extremely difficult during their spells.
After the opening breakthroughs, the rest of the Lustleigh bowling attack chipped in with a wicket each, although there may be a few bowlers practising their variations after some wayward deliveries!
Manaton/Moreton were eventually bowled out for 55, securing another dominant victory and full points haul for Lustleigh.
The Lustleigh Man of the Match, also sponsored by Lustleigh Dairy and Post Office, was Dave Saxton for his pacy and accurate spell (four overs, one maiden, two wickets for 13 runs).
