ASHBURTON 2nd XI made a meal of knocking off South Brent’s 55 but eventually crossed the line with two wickets to spare, writes Josh Goodman.
In a particularly low-scoring game at Varwell Field, South Brent struggled to 55-all-out off 20 overs. Chris Roud (22) and Sam Staniforth (23) made a combined 45 runs, with their nine teammates combining for seven. Extras gifted another three.
Ashton West was the pick of the bowling attack with four wickets off five overs at a cost of only 16 runs.
Ashburton took 31.4 overs to trump the meagre total, losing eight wickets for their troubles. West top-scored with 14 – well, except for the 19 extras.
Brent’s pair of JJ and Nick Bryant combined for seven wickets to give their side any inkling of hope.
