ENGLAND internationals Jack Leach and Craig Overton are both in the Somerset side playing a South Devon XI at Newton Abbot tomorrow night (5.30pm) in a testimonial game for Lewis Gregory.

South African squad man Migael Pretorius, Archie Vaughan and ex-England Lion batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore have also confirmed they will be turning out.

Sadly, Gregory won’t be playing as he is sidelined with an injury. But he will be at the match and speaking at a pre-match lunch.

Gregory, Somerset’s double-winning one-day captain, is the latest in a long line of Somerset players to arrange testimonial games on the South Devon ground. The first, back in 1957, was Harold Stephenson.

More recently, Peter Trego, James Hildreth, Max Waller and Marcus Trescothick have taken teams to Newton Abbot for testimonial games.

Somerset and the ECB talent-spotted Gregory as he went through the Devon age-groups from under-11 upwards. By 2008 he was playing in Somerset’s 2nd XI and part of the ECB’s development programme.

Gregory went on to captain England under-19s in two Tests against Sri Lanka in 2011. He made his First-Class debut for Somerset later that year.

Among Gregory’s many highlights have been 12 white-ball appearances for England, winning the Vitality Blast competition and featuring in Big Bash League for Brisbane Heat, the Bangladesh Premier League (Rangpur Rangers) and the Pakistani Super League for Pershaw and Karachi Kings.

Admission on the gate is £10.
