BOVEY Tracey AFC and Buckland Athletic both returned home empty-handed from their respective away games on Saturday, September 26.

Starting with the Moorlanders and they were hit for six by promotion hopefuls Clevedon Town at the North Somerset Community Stadium.

Lucas Vowles, Ben Griffith and Jacob Sloggett were all on target in the opening half an hour, forcing Bovey boss Ben Gerring into an earlier-than-expected double change.

Vowles struck again after the break, as did Nathan Byrne and Nicholas McCootie in another convincing Clevedon victory.

After the game, Gerring wrote on social media: “Tough day. But think I just saw the league winners in my opinion.

“Solid all over the pitch, levels above our lads. And I don’t think they will mind me saying that, Clevedon were excellent today.”

Buckland lost by a much tighter margin with Tom Stone netting the only goal of the game in favour of Street FC.

Manager Matt Cusack said that it was a “bad day” for his side, adding: “Didn’t do enough in the attacking third and need to find consistency in this area.”

A 10-minute sin-binning for centre-back Jordan Pearce put the Bucks on the back foot. Street have now beaten both of these South Devon sides at The Tannery Ground.

Returning to Bovey and Gerring clearly feels that his team need reinforcements, announcing two new statement signings this week.

Shane White is one of a few key Tavistock AFC players to depart Langsford Park in the wake of Steve Tully’s departure with the Western Counties Roofing Ground being his landing spot.

Gerring says that “They don’t get much better than this” and in the club statement, he also noted: “I have had some difficult but honest conversations with lads that have been good to me over the last 18 months, but the situation is what it is and I have to address the fact we are conceding to many goals.”

Leighton Green is the other new arrival, signing on loan from Weston-super-Mare with Gerring labelling him as “a great addition.”
