BUCKLAND Athletic’s Western League fixture away at Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday, January 10, was one of many to fall victim to the weather.

The Bucks were looking to extend their three-game unbeaten streak and build on that 9-0 thumping of AFC St. Austell the weekend prior but it wasn’t to be.

Beating St. Austell restored their place in the playoff spots and there they remain with other teams around them also having their games postponed.

Only three fixtures did go ahead in the Western League Premier Division and yet there were plenty of goals scored all the same.

In the lowest scoring game of the day, Ivybridge Town won 3-1 at Erme Valley against Street FC.

Street took the lead in that one through Eli Collins but the young Ivies have a formidable frontline and they turned the fixture around, Kai Burrell, Dan Tate and Josh Johnson scoring first-half goals within eight minutes of each other to secure the victory.

Joint Ivies manager Brad Gargett said: “We killed the game which is how good we can be. We had won the game at half-time and we worked hard in the second half.”

Elsewhere, Jensen Wakefield scored four goals, two either side of the break to inspire Bradford Town to a notable home victory over Newquay AFC. Charlie Maddison came off the bench and also got in on the action in this 5-0 success.

Last but not least, Clevedon Town surpassed Buckland’s goalscoring exploits as they won 11-0 against a struggling St. Austell side.

Seb Scott and Sam Beresford both helped themselves to hat-tricks with singles coming from Owen Humphries, Charlie Saunders, Harrison Coker, Jamie King and Luke Osgood.

Weather permitting, Buckland Athletic will return to action on Saturday 17 when they welcome 14th-placed Street FC to The VX3 Stadium.
