BUCKLAND Athletic’s winning start to the new season continued with help from some very late drama.

Matt Cusack’s men headed for Blaise Park, the home of St. Blazey, to contest an FA Cup preliminary round clash.

There were two changes made to the XI that picked up a big three points away at Barnstaple Town a few days prior. Rafael Beadman and Jared Lewington returned to the side, taking the places of Owen Stockton and Ryan Bush respectively.

Charlie Menear was the quickest to react to a Jordan Duffey save and so he was on hand to give St. Blazey the lead in Cornwall.

The hosts remained a goal to the good into the half-time break and well beyond with Buckland finally finding parity in the 65th minute.

Fullback Jake Lane opened his account for the Yellows having made the switch over from Ivybridge Town, a good strike that “no-one was getting a hand to” in the words of the Buckland social media feed.

With a draw in 90 minutes looking more and more likely, another recruit from Ivybridge popped up at the death to book the Buck’s spot in the next round. As a Luke “Forward corner comes in, [Scott] Pocock rises and a looping header floats over the man on the post and nestles into the top corner.”

Taking to Twitter, centre-back Pocock wrote: “Always nice scoring a 90th minute winner in the FA Cup. 3/3 wins for the boys now”, with goalkeeper Duffey replying, “Superb today mate, deserved that goal.”

The preliminary round of the cup beckons next and Buckland will visit Exmouth Town on Saturday, August 16. They were originally scheduled to host Nailsea & Tickenham in the league on that day but that one has been re-arranged for Saturday, December 16.

Buckland return to league action this weekend as they welcome Wellington AFC to Homers Heath.
