PLAYERS at WBB Youth Football Club in Kingsteignton have stylish new kits, thanks to a local housebuilder.

Linden Homes, which is building homes locally at Church Walk in Newton Abbot, donated the money to supply the Under-12s team with a new football strip.

Established in 2000, WBB Youth FC provides football to boys and girls of all abilities. Run by committed volunteers, the club partners with Plymouth Argyle – enabling them to build strong and lasting relationships. There are currently 16 teams, each with an FA qualified coach, as well as a disability frame football team and a mini kickers session for three to six year olds.

With a full squad of 13 players, the Under-12s team train on Wednesdays at Coombeshead Academy throughout the winter and at Abbrook Park – the home ground – during the summer. The players enjoy weekly matches on a Sunday and they are supported by coach Sam Peardon and assistant coach Kevin Murphy.

Matt Baird, chair of the club, commented: ‘We have around 250 children that play and we believe that football should be an inclusive sport for players of all ages and abilities. We offer a safe and friendly environment for each individual to learn how to improve their football skills, while playing with their friends.

‘As a voluntary team, we are heavily reliant on sponsorships from businesses to enable us to provide kits for the children and we are ever so grateful to Linden Homes for supporting us. A lot goes into being a football coach but watching these dedicated, passionate children thrive and grow within a successful football team is what it’s all about.

‘We are currently sat at the top of the league  and we’re in the quarter finals of the league cup – heading into the fourth round of county cup – so it’s an exciting time for the players and they deserve to look the part.’

Pete Castley, Area Sales Director, commented: ‘WBB Youth Football Club provides fantastic opportunities for children and we’re pleased to support them so costs are not passed onto the club and players’ families. We look forward to following the Under-12s’ progress this season and wish them luck in the county cup!’
