STOVER Golf Club regained the South Devon League title on Saturday, September 5, when they defeated Dainton Park on the final day.

They had won it in three of the previous five years with The Warren reigning victorious in 2023 and Churston coming into the current campaign as defending champions after their success in 2025.

Whilst Stover were taking on Dainton at home, Torquay hosted Teignmouth and Warren visited Churston with Torquay the only other side capable of hoisting the silverware aloft.

A mere 2.5 points separated Stover and Torquay ahead of the last matches and so the former’s 5.5-1.5 victory over Dainton guaranteed them the glory, regardless of the outcomes elsewhere.

Torquay did their part and won 4-3 against Teignmouth, leaving them in second and seeing Teignmouth drop down to fourth.

Churston meanwhile took their spot on the podium with an emphatic 6.5-0.5 victory over The Warren who brought up the rear this year, Dainton finishing fifth.

In a Facebook post, Stover wrote: “In a league as competitive as this one, nothing comes easy, and every point earned across the season has played its part.”

They went on to thank every player who played their part, to Dainton and the other four teams, the SDL organisers Peter English and Nick Pearse and also, to everyone who has turned out to support their players across the 10 fixtures.

It was just last month they prevailed in the Torbay Cup so the summer season of 2026 has been one to remember for everyone at Stover.

They will surely be a prominent force in the SDL for years to come as well if the success of their junior team is anything to go by. Over the same weekend, the youngsters won their league equivalent for the sixth, yes sixth, year running.

Dainton and Teignmouth were prolific in the 2010s and now it seems as if this is Stover’s dominant decade.
