Petroc Division 1
Ashmoor Women's 1st XI. 6
Okehampton Women's 2nd XI. 0
HAVING lost to their opponents away from home earlier in the season, Ashmoor women’s team started in determined fashion.
They took the lead when a penalty corner ended up being sent goalwards, and Emma Fisher was on hand at the back post. Just before half time Zoe Harris made it 2-0 with a strong flick again from a penalty corner.
After the break, it was all Ashmoor. Tilly McEwen produced a couple of excellent solo runs, setting up Harris for her second, and then scoring herself after showing good skills.
The defence was superbly marshalled by player of the match Ellie Ingham-Hill, and as the game neared its’ conclusion, McEwen finished well after an interception for her second goal of the match.
It was fitting that the tireless Steph Hildreth scored goal number six from a penalty corner on the final whistle.
Ashmoor remain in third place and this Saturday, travel to play second-placed Kingsbridge & Salcombe 1st team.
Elsewhere, Ashmoor men's second team came away from a tricky away game in Bodmin with a hard earned 4-3 win.
Captain Reuben Stanley scored a hat trick of set pieces, with an opening penalty stroke followed by two second half penalty corner goals. Midfielder Harry Little scored Ashmoor's other goal.
Tim Brodbelt earned the player of the match award. The win keeps Ashmoor 2nd XI in third place in the league. This weekend the 2nd team have a home match against Bude 1sts.
The 3rd XI produced an excellent second half performance, coming back from 3-0 down at half time to make it 4-3, before a couple of late goals for Exeter 2s settled the entertaining match.
Dan Green won player of the match after contributing a 12-minute hat-trick. Next they visit mid-table North Devon.
Finally, the 4th XI were beaten 7-0 by Ocean City 4th but, despite the scoreline, Ashmoor were glad to field a team and had an enjoyable game.
