The South Devon Youth Cricket League (SDYCL) is inviting anyone with an interest in competitive youth cricket to attend a get-together at Bovey Tracey Cricket Club on Tuesday from 7.30pm to discuss the future structure of the competition.
The league, which currently involves 17 clubs in south Devon, is looking to give the competition a makeover before the start of the 2013 season.
It was agreed by the league management committee in March that there should be a review of the existing structure at the end of the current season, with committee member Chris Partridge volunteering to spearhead the process.
Now the 2012 season has finished, the league would like as many interested parties as possible to attend the gathering on Tuesday. The meeting will look at ways of making the league more enjoyable and user-friendly in 2013.
Said Partridge: 'The league essentially operates in a "one size fits all" manner at present, and although the number of teams and players has increased in recent years, the structure has remained the same.
'This creates additional pressure and workloads both on the people running the league and people running club teams.
'Although there have been extenuating circumstances this year, like shocking weather and the Olympic Games, there are a substantial number of league fixtures that have not been completed, and at the end of the day it is the young players who are missing out on their cricket when matches do not get played.
'Our suggestion is to look at how the league can adapt the structure of our competition to better meet the needs of our member clubs, and hopefully lead to more games being played and more children playing more cricket.'
Anyone with an interest in youth cricket is welcome to attend the get-together, which will allow for a general exchange of ideas and opinions ahead of the league annual meeting, which is scheduled for the end of the year.
'At this point we are an open forum for ideas and anyone who feels they have something to contribute should come along – including coaches, managers, parents and even the players themselves,' added Partridge.
The meeting in the clubhouse on Tuesday starts at 7.30pm prompt. If anyone would like more information, or to contribute ideas if they cannot attend the meeting, they can contact Partridge on 07887 513800 or risingstars2010 @googlemail.com.
