UPDATE- THIS FIXTURE HAS BEEN POSTPONED AND WILL NOW BE PLAYED A LATER DATE, TBC.

AMIDST their solid Counties One Western West campaign to date, Newton Abbot RFC 1st XV have a potential shining jewel in form of a cup final.

Neither promotion nor relegation seems likely for the All Whites this year so to hoist silverware aloft, and to do so in front of their own supporters, would make for a day to remember.

On Sunday, February 8, they will welcome Cullompton RFC to Rackerhayes with the Devon Intermediate Cup on the line.

Newton Abbot won the competition previously in 2022, beating Kingsbridge RFC 31-22 at the final hurdle having already secured league promotion prior to the final.

Four years ago, they had home advantage on their side too and this could well spur them on to yet another glorious day.

Cullompton ply their trade in the league above, making this no easy task, but they are struggling to keep their heads above water in Regional Two South West.

Having won just three of their 15 league games to date, their currently have 18 points in their tally and only Wellington RFC below them in the standings.

Competing at the same level last year, Cully narrowly beat Newton Abbot both home and away.

One potential stumbling block that remains unresolved at the time of writing is the presence of a league game the day prior. Newton had been set to visit Barnstaple IIs on Saturday, January 24, but the weather had other ideas, pushing the fixture to Saturday, February 7 for the time being.

The club will be doing all they can to further postpone that Barum clash so as to be able to concentrate their focus on the cup final.

There will be a pre-match roast dinner on Sunday to get everybody in the spirit and ready for a big afternoon of rugby at Newton Abbot RFC.
